A viral Instagram video has captured the unexpected yet heartwarming train journey of two Canadian nationals travelling across India. What began as a simple booking mistake turned into an unforgettable cultural experience for them.
Their seven-hour journey in the sleeper class of an Indian train, originally intended for rest, instead became a lively community gathering that has since gone viral on social media.
In a widely shared Instagram post, Kim Greenwood recounted how she accidentally booked sleeper class tickets from Jalgaon Junction to Chandrapura, assuming it would allow her and her travel partner to get more sleep. Instead, the experience offered them something far more memorable.
From Sleepless Ride to Shared Moments
Greenwood explained that sleeper class, categorised as third class on some trains, grants passengers a berth but also invites a shared, community atmosphere.
In a video clip accompanying her post, several curious children can be seen peering at her partner as he rested on the middle berth.
Rather than feeling disturbed, the Canadians embraced the interaction. Soon, games were being played, food was shared and their small cabin transformed into what Greenwood described as a vibrant community space.
Greenwood said she was “impressed and amazed” by the way families from different backgrounds came together, sharing homemade food and snacks bought through train windows during stops.
Social Media Applauds Spirit
Despite not getting any sleep, Greenwood said she “wouldn’t change a thing.” The video has since garnered over 615,000 views, with users praising the couple’s positive attitude.
Many commenters described Indian train journeys as spaces where strangers become like family, sharing stories, laughter and meals. Others appreciated the travellers’ openness, noting that such experiences create lasting memories far beyond the destination.
