The victim, Chabi Gupta, shared her ordeal on social media, displaying the broken piece of her gold chain as proof. She revealed that the incident occurred in broad daylight on a crowded street in downtown Chicago, where she suddenly felt her chain being yanked off her neck. “For a second, I froze,” she said. “Then it hit me how real this city can get.”

Chabi also posted a snippet from a video call with her mother, where she appeared visibly upset. Her mother could be heard saying, “This type of incident never took place in Ranchi, Patna, Bengaluru or wherever you stayed.” She added that Chabi’s father was so disturbed he couldn’t sleep all night.
