Odisha is searing in intense heatwave conditions for the last several days and as per the India Meteorological Department, there is no immediate relief expected from the scorching weather. The IMD says that there is high probability that such heatwave conditions will prevail in different parts of Odisha for two more weeks. Bhubaneswar IMD scientist Umashankar Dash informed that as per the extended weather outlook, the heatwave conditions will continue in Odisha till May 9. The heatwave conditions are also likely to prevail in coastal districts while several parts in western and interior pockets might experience day temperature between 42 to 44 degrees Celsius during the same period. Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions prevailed over Odisha and West Bengal during last two weeks. IMD informed that the heatwave spell over Odisha started from April 15, and over Gangetic West Bengal from April 17. The probability of heatwave in the first week of May is 68 to 100 percent while it is 34 to 67 percent in the second week.
