Issuing a severe cold wave warning, the Bhubaneswar Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an ‘Orange’ and ‘Yellow’ warning over several districts of Odisha for the next few days.

As per information of the MeT Centre, starting from morning of Dec 21 till Dec 22, an ‘Orange warning’ has been issued for severe cold wave conditions which are very likely to prevail at a few places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Kandhamal.

For the said period, the MeT Centre also issued a ‘Yellow Warning’ for cold wave conditions which are very likely to grip as many as 17 districts of the state. These districts include - Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Deogarh.

As per latest reports, Daringbadi recorded season’s lowest minimum temperature of 3.5 degree Celsius last night while Phulbani recorded 4 deg Celsius. Owing to the weather conditions, the MeT centre warned against likelihood of ailments related to cold along with likely impact of the same on livestock.

The weather department has also advised people of the affected districts to take necessary precautions such as minimizing the exposure to cold, avoiding movement at night, and tending to livestock during this period.
