Will rain play spoil sport during the third phase polling in Odisha? Well, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha on May 25. As per the IMD, the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood now lies over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22. It is likely to move initially north-eastwards and concentrate into a Depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 25, 2024. The alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, and Mayurbhanj. Similarly, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur and Keonjhar. (The alert will remain valid from May 25 till 8:30AM of May 26). Meanwhile, the maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to gradually rise by 2 to 4 degrees C during the next 3-4 days at many places over the districts of Odisha.
