Fans are up for a heartbreak ahead of the IPL as Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down as the captain of Chennai Super Kings. As per reports, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the team in this season of the Indian Premiere League. Ruturaj has been with CSK since the 2019 IPL auction, and has shown maturity and remarkable form and consistency every season. In the last season, Ruturaj’s contributions were instrumental, as he amassed 590 runs in 16 matches. It is being said that star cricketer and CSK’s former player Suresh Raina who has shared a close bond with MS Dhoni had suggested Ruturaj as an ideal choice to lead CSK which is why he highlighted the importance of this season so that the team could plan for the future under a new skipper. Dhoni has won five IPL titles as CSK skipper, which includes the victory last year against Gujarat Titans in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Dhoni had then confirmed that he would return for the IPL 2024, but as a skipper or player or mentor was always a doubt.
