Former Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh was arrested in an alleged casteist remark case, informed Haryana Police on Sunday (October 17). According to media reports, Yuvraj was formally arrested by Hansi Police in Hisar and released on interim bail in compliance of the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Courts.
The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed in February this year by a Dalit activist in Haryana, demanding the star cricketers arrest and registration of a case under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Last year in June, Yuvraj was accused of using a casteist slur against another cricketer in an Instagram live video.
After that, his comments were widely shared on social media which triggered an outrage. Subsequently, the 39-year-old apologised for his ‘unintentional remarks’ and said he was ‘misunderstood’.
