In a festive relief for lakhs of Odisha government employees, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday directed that the September salaries be disbursed in advance on September 26, ahead of the Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.
Usually, salaries are credited on the last working day of the month. But with the Odisha government offices scheduled to remain closed for Durga Puja holidays from September 27, CM Mohan Majhi has asked departments to ensure timely payment before the long break.
Why Early Release Of Salary
As per the Chief Minister’s Office, the move aims to help employees meet festival-related expenses, including traditional Dussehra shopping.
The decision also takes into account the ongoing nationwide 'Savings Festival' following the rollout of GST reforms, encouraging families to plan purchases and spend during the festive season.
Durga Puja, one of Odisha’s biggest cultural and religious celebrations, sees extensive travel, shopping, and community gatherings. The early release of salaries is expected to boost festive markets and bring relief to employees as they prepare for the holiday period.
Depression Threat Clouds Durga Puja Festivities
In other news, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed the formation of a low-pressure area over the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of south Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Officials have cautioned that this system may intensify further into a depression, raising concerns for Odisha’s ongoing Durga Puja celebrations.
