Odisha Congress urges CM to order probe into CAG-flagged misuse of ST/SC development funds

Odisha Congress has urged Chief Minister Mohan Majhi to take strict action against the culprits involved in the misappropriation of funds under ST/SC development schemes, as published in the Comptroller and Auditor General  (CAG) report under ITDA in the state.

Odisha Congress Legislative Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam has written a letter in this regard to CM Majhi on Thursday.

"I am to bring your kind attention regarding the serious irregularities and financial misappropriation report which has been published in recent Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report for the ST/SC Development Schemes under ITDA in Odisha. The report highlights gross lapses in financial transaction and these funds has used in money laundering by AE's and JE's. These funds are meant for the upliftment and welfare of most vulnerable communities. Such unethical and unlawful actions by AE's and JE's not only undermine the purpose of these vital welfare schemes but also erode public trust in the administration," the letter read.

"In this context, I humbly urge your esteemed office to initiate an independent and time-bound investigation into the alleged misappropriations as cited in the CAG report. Identify and hold accountable all officials, intermediaries, or entities involved in the laundering and misuse of ST/SC development funds. Ensure recovery of the Misappropriation funds and take necessary corrective measures to strengthen financial monitoring and transparency in the implementation of welfare schemes. Publish the findings and actions taken in the public domain to restore confidence among the ST/SC communities and the general public," the letter further read.

"The ST/SC communities of Odisha have long relied on the support of government welfare initiatives to overcome historical disadvantages. Misuse of funds allocated for their development is not just a financial crime, it is a betrayal of their trust and future. We look forward to your leadership in taking strict and exemplary action against the culprits, those who are involved in the above matter will reinforce the values of justice, accountability, and inclusive development of ST/SC Community. A line in reply over this matter is highly appreciated," it added.
