Jaundice is gradually spreading its tentacles in Cuttack triggering resentment among the locals. It has been alleged that following protest over the lackadaisical attitude of the administration in curbing the contaminated disease, the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) has replaced the old water supply pipes with new ones. Earlier, Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner, Health Department and WATCO officials visited the jaundice-affected areas in the Millennium City to take stock of the situation. Public awareness through mic was also done informing people about ways to remain free from the disease. Meanwhile, the local residents expressed resentment following the announcement by the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) that only 11 people have been affected by jaundice in Cuttack. The denizens have raised questions over the ‘erroneous’ statement and intention of the administration. As per the locals, the disease has affected most parts of the city and more than 70 people have been affected by it so far. They have further raised questions on the intention of the administration in suppressing the facts regarding the number of patients affected by the disease. As per the allegation of the local residents, the administration repeatedly ignored the request of the people to curb the spread of the disease which was at its earlier stage two months back. Meanwhile, Cuttack Chief District Medical Officer Makaranda Beura said that the main cause behind the disease is water. He added that authorities have examined water samples and come to know that water has been contaminated in some places which is causing the disease. The CDMO has expressed hope that the disease will be curbed soon.
