In a significant breakthrough, Malkangiri Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a large cache of explosives and weapons from a hidden cave during a joint anti-Maoist operation. The discovery was made in the Dulagundi forest under Kalimela Police Station, marking another major success in the ongoing efforts to curb Maoist activity in the region.
During routine combing operations in the dense forest, security personnel received specific intelligence about Maoist materials concealed inside a hill cave. Acting with utmost caution, the team reached the location and successfully retrieved the explosives without incident.

The seized items include a firearm, a large quantity of live ammunition, gelatin sticks, landmine-like explosive devices and other Maoist operational materials.
Preliminary assessment suggests that Maoists may have stored these explosives months ago with the intention of launching attacks on police and BSF teams. Officials believe the stash was part of a larger plan to target security patrols.
Reduced Activity but Persistent Threat
While Maoist presence within Malkangiri district has declined significantly in recent years, adjoining states such as Chhattisgarh continue to witness the Maoist movement. This makes border regions vulnerable to infiltration and sporadic militant activity.
A Strong Message from Security Forces
Authorities have taken the recovery very seriously and intensified surveillance in strategic areas. The successful operation not only prevents potential attacks but also reinforces confidence among residents living in remote tribal pockets.
