Beneficiaries, who have submitted applications in the past one month, will get new ration cards after e-KYC verification in Odisha, the state Assembly was informed.
This information was given when Congress MLA from Barabati-Cuttack Sofia Firdous stated that around ten lakh people are waiting for ration cards after having applied for it and sought a response from the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister.
As the concerned department minister was absent during the Assembly proceedings, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj informed the House that completion of e-KYC verification within a stipulated time frame is not mandatory.
According to Suraj, e-KYC verification is a sensitive matter and hence the government has appealed to people to get the process completed at the earliest.
Previously, it was reported that the government is actively working to address discrepancies in the ration card system by removing ghost entries and updating records to ensure that only legitimate beneficiaries receive assistance.
