At an election rally in Amaravati Maharashtra, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi made broad remarks about working journalists, accusing them of being beholden to the ruling regime and labeling them as "slaves of their owner”. In response to Gandhi's comments, the Mumbai Press Club emphasized that the Congress MP should focus on concrete actions to address the challenges faced by journalists, rather than merely making statements. The club also advised Gandhi to direct his criticism towards media owners and the structural issues within the industry. In a press statement, the Mumbai Press Club further noted that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi deserves criticism for avoiding open press conferences, Rahul Gandhi's recurring mockery and derision of journalists also warrants rebuke.
