The President of Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad, Mahant Narendra Giri was found hanging in a room at Baghambari Mutt on Monday (September 20). The seer reportedly left a 7-page ‘suicide’ note in which he held his disciple Anand Giri and two others responsible for his death.

The Mahant alleged that Anand Giri is trying to tarnish his image by making a defamatory video linking him with some woman. The seer also made a short video before allegedly committing suicide blaming his disciple.

On the other hand, Anand claimed this suicide to be a conspired murder by those who are trying to misappropriate the funds of the mutt. Further citing that the seer did not know how to write, Anand said that he could not have written the suicide letter.

Meanwhile, Anand’s claim has been refuted by Mahant’s family members who said the Mahant knew how to read and write. Over the past few months, the seer was involved in a public fray with his disciple Anand Giri.

The Mahant had reportedly got Anand expelled from the Niranjani Akhara accusing that he went against the traditions of the Akhara. Anand had also accused his guru of financial irregularities, but he is said to have apologised later for levelling accusations.

An 18-member Special Investigation team (SIT) has been set up by the UP Govt to probe the case. Meanwhile, two persons including Anand Giri & Adya Giri have been arrested by police in connection with the case.

The autopsy report reveals the seer died of asphyxiation due to hanging.
