Aadhaar serves as a crucial identity proof in India as it includes key details like name, permanent address, date of birth and a 12-digit number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). In 2018, UIDAI introduced the concept of ‘Baal Aadhaar’ card for children below five years of age. It is also known as Blue Aadhaar Card. The Blue Aadhaar is just like the normal Aadhaar card but it is blue in colour and contains the 12-digit unique number. No biometrics is required for Blue Aadhaar. The Unique Identification Number (UID) will be processed on the basis of demographic information and a facial photograph linked to the UID of parents. The children will need to update their biometrics of ten fingers, an iris, and a facial photograph, when they are five and again at the age of 15, or else the card will become invalid. Parents can easily book appointment for Blue Aadhaar for their children through the official UIDAI website.
