At least two people have been killed after being run over by a train at Kalajharia Railway Station in Jharkhand’s Jamtara. As per the railway officials, the incident occurred at around 7 PM on Wednesday. The officials said that Bhagalpur-Yesvantpur Express was on halt (near Kalajharia station) and several passengers got off the train after hearing a rumour of fire. Reportedly, two passengers running on the track were allegedly hit by Asansol-Jasidih MEMU. The passengers died on the spot. However, Eastern Railway claimed that the victims were not passengers but were dwelling on the train when the train hit them. Rescue operations were launched immediately. Medical teams, four ambulances, and three buses rushed to the spot to bring the injured to Jamtara. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the train mishap and said: "Pained by the mishap in Jamtara, Jharkhand. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon." President Droupadi Murmu also expressed her condolences to the bereaved families and termed the train accident extremely sad.
