People living in remote areas in the state continue to be deprived of adequate healthcare facilities, and reasons are galore. In the absence of a motorable road, a 58-yr-old patient in Ganjam district had to be a carried in a sling for 3kms. Harishchandra Naik of tribal-dominated Gadanga village in Patrapur block is suffering from liver ailments. Saturday night, when his condition worsened, his family members made a makeshift sling to carry him till Titirisingi where ambulance was stationed. The reason no vehicle could reach them is, the only muddy road to village has gotten washed off in rain. From Titirisingi, the patient was shifted to Berhampur hospital in an ambulance where he is currently undergoing treatment. Villagers have urged the administration to construct the road as early as possible so that it would help them tackle such emergencies in future.
