The Inspector in-charge (IIC) of Motu Police Station in Malkangiri was arrested by Vigilance sleuths on Thursday (Sept 23) on charges of possession of unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 2.8 lakh.

The IIC Susanta Kumar Sahoo was intercepted yesterday (Sept 22) by vigilance officials at Khordha while he was on way to his native village, Nakhara in Cuttack district. During questioning, the IIC could not provide any satisfactory answers over carrying the cash found in his possession.

As per sources, during searches conducted by Vigilance on the concerned IIC's property, a registered sale deed of value Rs 24.9 lakh of plot at Nakhara, purchased recently in the name of his wife, was recovered along with other incriminating material.

Reports said that a case has been registered against him and he is currently being forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, the IIC said that he had borrowed the money from a known person for treatment of his ailing father.

The IIC explained that his father is currently undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar for paralysis which was caused by a brain stroke.
