In a major crackdown against illegal food manufacturing units, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Thursday (Sept 23) launched a raid and sealed three bakeries in Cuttack's Sikharpur area which were operating without any trade licence.

Sources said locals in the area noticed that the bakery products from the concerned manufacturing units had no manufacturing or expiry dates printed on the packets.

Alleging that the bakery units did not adhere to prescribed guidelines, the locals said that the bakeries were using malpractices which led to the surprise raid by the CMC authorities.

As per reports, these bakeries were operating without valid or food licenses. During the raids, the factories also failed to produce necessary documents. Additionally, the CMC authorities informed that the quality of bread, cake and other bakery items were found to be substandard.
