The Odisha Government has restricted Zero-Night celebrations or any similar celebrations on the eve of New Year and on January 1st, 2022. It is believed that these curbs have been announced on account of the looming threat of Omicron Variant.

According to a statement issued by Special Relief Commissioner, congregation of large number of people at public places for Zero Night Celebration or similar functions on the eve of New Year can have large potential for spread of COVID-19 infections.

The notification stated that in order to avoid this, congregation in public places including hotels, restaurants etc for Zero Night celebrations on December 31st and January 1st, 2022 shall remain prohibited throughout the State.

Meanwhile, the SRC has advised people to limit their celebrations to their houses and avoid large gatherings. Usage of permitted green crackers during the celebration is allowed but not at any public places.
