The festive season has kicked off. And for the administration and health department in Odisha, combating Covid-19 will be the biggest challenge.

As per top Health officials, the main focus will be on devising ways to arrest the spread of the virulent virus. With a view to keep the Covid cases under control, the Odisha Health department has geared up its preparations. Containment zones will be created in places where the contagion is spreading thick and fast.

Moreover, day-to-day monitoring of cases will be done in every district during the festival season. Meanwhile, after a discussion with the Health Ministry, Odisha Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra has urged people to continue COVID-appropriate behaviour during the festivities.

He alerted that cases might explode again if people let their guards down during the festive season. This apart, the government is also planning to increase the pace of vaccination.

As per official data of the Odisha Health department, on October 5, the daily infection in the state was below 500. However, since then the total single-day cases have remained above 500, with Khordha reporting bulk of these cases.

Focus will be more on twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The government has also clamped extended night curfew in these two areas for 10 days from October 11 to 20.
