Amidst the scare of a new Covid-19 variant, more reports of COVID19 infection in schools are emerging. As many as 26 girl students of Chamakpur residential school under Thakurmunda Block in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday (Nov 26).

As per reports, the girl students were tested after some of them complained of Covid-like symptoms such as cough and cold. Out of them, 27 reportedly tested positive for the virus while the swab samples of 15 other girls have been sent to the Baripada District Headquarters Hospital for evaluation.

Reports stated that as many as 259 students along with 20 employees live on the residential school’s premises.

However, following the detection of these cases, all of the students and staff have been kept in isolation at the school. Meanwhile, Karanjia Sub-Collector, Thakurmunda BDO, Tehsildar and a doctor team will carry out an on-spot evaluation on Saturday.

Earlier on November 23, as many as 53 students of a girls’ high school in Sundergarh district had tested positive for Covid-19.
