In a shocking incident, two people detained at the Motu Police Station in Malkangiri over a robbery case were allegedly thrashed by police. It is alleged that the accused were tortured over a span of three days.

The two injured have been identified as Binod Biswas and Biplav Haldar. The two are currently undergoing treatment at the MV-79 Medical Centre.

As per reports, a few days ago, a robbery had taken place in MV-81 village in which the robbers had looted gold and cash. Both Binod and Biplav were suspects in the robbery case.

Later, a hearing was done at a Khap Panchayat in the village following which the duo was handed over to the police. However, the injured have claimed that they were thrashed by the police while they were in custody.

However, Malkangiri SP refuted the claims and stated the duo was thrashed by the villagers. The SP said that the two accused were thrashed by the villagers after which they were handed over to the police.

While investigation into the case is underway, the concerned police station in-charge has been transferred to district headquarters.
