With the cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ likely to make landfall near Odisha’s Balasore distrtict on May 26th, Scientist of Meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar, Umashankar Das, has informed about fresh forecast of heavy rainfall in several coastal districts of Odisha.
MET Bhubaneswar, Scientist, Umashankar Das said, The cyclone is nearing Paradip and is continuously changing forms. As we can see, when the intensification of the cyclone takes place, then the speed of its movement usually gets slow. Yesterday the speed was 4 kilometer per hour when it was still a cyclonic storm. After that, when it turned severe, the speed increased slightly and today, currently, it is slowing down. This is because, as per the prediction, it is supposed to intensify by 11:30 AM today after which again its speed will go down. But currently, due to its effect, since it is reaching the outer belt of our coast, much effect will be seen at Paradip which recorded the maximum rainfall of 121 mm, till 5:30 AM today which is very heavy rainfall as per data. Apart from that, Chandbali also recorded 57 mm rainfall, Puri recorded 40 mm, Balasore recorded 38 mm and Bhubaneswar recorded 27 mm rainfall. Till now, the rainfall has been continuous, so it is being predicted that the intensity will slowly increase. It will increase further. Today as well, several districts of Odisha have been given a Orange Warning, mostly for Balsore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and after that Puri, Khordha and Cuttack. In some places in all these districts, there are chances of high to severe rainfall.
