But luck ran out for him after the actual holder of the registration number tracked him down. The accused identified as Ratikant Satpathy, used to move in an SUV with an ‘Army’ sticker on it and a fake registration number. But, whenever Satpathy violated the traffic regulations, the actual holder of the registration used to receive the penalty challan.

After the actual holder received three challans with over Rs 10K penalty for traffic violation, he started tracking this imposter’s movements and managed to intercept him on Friday (June 11). Sources said that after Satpathy was brought to the police station, he was unable to provide any documentation to prove that he was an army officer. Police have arrested Satpathy while a case has also been registered against Sanjay Gupta, who is the owner of the vehicle on which a fake registration number plate was used.
