The Congress has lashed out at the central government for not releasing the dearness allowance (DA) of government employees suspended for more than a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Saturday, calling the suspension of the three instalments as 'cruel and insensitive', the Congress demanded immediate restoration of the dearness allowance (DA) for 115 lakh government employees. Hitting out at the government, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded immediate release of DA for soldiers, government employees and pensioners. Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi also demanded the release of DA that was frozen last year amid decreasing salaries and inflation in view of the pandemic.

Lakhs of central government employees and pensioners are waiting for the Dearness Allowance (DA) hike announcement. The three instalments were due in January 2020, July 2020, and January 2021. The Centre had earlier announced to restore DA and Dearness Relief (DR) benefit to both central government servants and pensioners from 1st July 2021.

However, no confirmation has been made in this regard by the government yet.
