In a horrifying incident, a pregnant female cop was allegedly shot dead in front of her husband and children in Afghanistan on Saturday (Sept 4). Meanwhile, the crime is suspected to be committed by the Taliban amid increasing reports of escalating repression of women in Afghanistan.

The deceased identified as Banu Negar was killed at her home in Firozkoh, the capital of central Ghor province, in a door-to-door execution. As per reports, Negar used to work at the local prison and was eight months pregnant when she was killed.

Sources said that on Saturday, three gunmen arrived at Negar's house and searched it before tying members of the family up. However, the Taliban told international media (BBC) that they had no involvement in the cop's murder and are investigating the incident.

Taliban Spokesperson Zabiullah Mujaheed told the media that her death was caused by 'personal enmity or something else'. Meanwhile, several pictures have circulated online showing blood spattered walls in the house and her disfigured corpse.

It is pertinent to mention that the Taliban have been trying to project a more tolerant and moderate image of themselves since usurping Afghanistan on August 15 this year.
