The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar sounded a ‘Yellow Warning’ for 19 districts of Odisha over expected thunderstorms and lightning in the next 24 hours.

The MeT Centre predicted thundershowers and lightning at one or two places over Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Jajpur. On account of the warning issued by MeT department, Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) alerted all concerned District Collectors and departments to remain prepared.

In the forecast, the MeT informed that the South West monsoon over Odisha has been subdued while light to moderate thundershowers have occurred at a few places over the districts of Odisha. The capital city Bhubaneswar will experience generally cloudy sky with light rain. The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar will likely be around 36°C, while the minimum temperature will likely be around 26°C in the next 24 hours. In the next couple of days light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur over several districts of Odisha.
