Odisha would be providing training to all medical staff to tackle a possible third wave of Covid-19, stated Odisha Health Director Bijay Mohapatra. Citing that there are expectations that the possible third wave might infect children the most, Mohapatra on Wednesday said that special arrangements are being made to stay prepared.
Mohapatra said that in addition to setting up ICUs for children, the state government will also be providing re-orientation training to all medical staff.
Accoding to Mohapatra, "Since the treatment of children is a little different and they require a special programme, the state government has decided it would be increasing the number of beds. We would be arranging ICU facilities for children. Basic training will be given to all doctors including the pediatric doctors. Paramedical staff will also be given training. We would be keeping the workforce prepared as well as all facilities handy. We have no issues in treatment or supply of drugs. People will be trained for it. We currently have 400-500 pediatricians. If we had to cover everyone, then at a basic level we would give intensive training. We would identify and ensure that at least one specialist is available in CHC, four at DHS and two at SDHs (Sub-Divisional Hospital). Medical colleges as it is have pediatric units. Everyone will be given re-orientation training, including the nursing staff and other ancillary staff".
