Another top talent is gone too soon.

Ollywood singer Tapu Mishra, who was under treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for post-Covid complications, passed away on Saturday. Mishra was on ventilator support for the last few days and breathed her last around 11 pm last night.

The popular singer was initially under home isolation after testing positive for Covid-19, but on May 19th when her oxygen saturation level dropped to 45, she was rushed to a private hospital and admitted to the ICU. Even though she had recovered from Covid, she was shifted to another hospital for post-Covid complications and severe lungs damage. Her family had sought help from the Chief Minister to shift her to Kolkata for ECMO treatment.

The Culture Department of the Odisha government had sanctioned Rs 1 lakh from the Artist Welfare Fund for her treatment but she was hardly responding to the treatment here and passed away. Considered one of the most versatile singers of the industry, Tapu Mishra had lent her voice to a number of hit movie songs, albums and bhajans in her career spanning over two decades. She had made her debut in 1995 with Odia movie Kula Nandan, and sang over 500 hit songs in her career.

The singer had also bagged as many as four state awards. Tapu Mishra's fellow singers, her fans, Odia music directors, actors and senior artistes associated with the cine industry have condoled her death. In her passing away, the cine industry and the whole of Odisha has lost a gem.
