Odisha Chief Secretary and the 5T Secretary faced massive protest of the nursing staff in Bolangir on Wednesday (August 4). 

Senior government officials had reportedly visited the district to review several developmental projects and the functioning of the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital. 

This is when the healthcare professionals including nursing staff staged a protest and shouted slogans against Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra and 5T Secretary VK Pandian. 

Water Resources Department secretary Anu Garg and National Health Mission (MHM) Director Shalini Pandit had also accompanied the team of officials.  

The nursing staff who have been disengaged from services reportedly demanded immediate reinstatement. 

When Covid-19 was at its peak stage in the state, the Odisha Government had engaged around 21,000 ANMs, pharmacists and staff nurses on temporary basis to facilitate healthcare system for the smooth functioning of Covid Care Homes (CCH). 

As per reports, these healthcare professionals were appointed on a daily wage basis for three months or till the CCHs were functional.

After the Covid-19 situation improved in state, these professionals were disengaged from services. 

Following this decision of the government, massive protests had erupted at the Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar.
