Private hospitals in Odisha will no more get COVID vaccine supply from the state procured doses. In a letter addressed to all the Collectors and Municipal Corporation Commissioners, the State Health Department instructed all the concerned authorities to cancel the vaccination drive at all the private hospitals from state procured vaccines. Interested private hospitals have to procure doses directly from the manufacturer.

Earlier the state government was supplying vaccines to private hospitals as part of an extension of the Central government’s CVC vaccination of people between 18-44 years age group. This was done to expedite the inoculation process in the state.

However, under the revised Covid-19 vaccination campaign, all vaccines will be provided by the Government of India for the vaccination of 18 years and above citizens. In this context, the authorities were instructed to stop the supply of vaccines to private hospitals immediately and also withdraw any remaining stock. What this means now is that the private hospitals interested in providing vaccination to citizens can procure vaccines directly from the manufacturer under the revised guideline.
