A body of just skin and bones! So thin and skinny that one can easily count the bones! This is Asifa Parveen. She is just 7 years old. Asifa’s malnourished body is a grim portrait of the inhuman torture she has been through. What is even more shocking is the fact that all this torture and suffering has reportedly been inflicted by none other than her own father.
This horrific incident was reported in Barala village, under Balipatna Police Limits in Puri. According to Asifa, her father, step mother and other family members tortured her. She was not given proper food and was not allowed to sleep. If she ever wished to move out of the house, she was allegedly beaten up and chained in the house.
Even her schooling was stopped and she was prohibited from speaking to her biological mother. It’s been over a year since little Asifa is living this dreadful life. A year ago, Asifa’s father Bilal Khan divorced his wife and the girl’s biological mother, Rijwana Parveen.
Then he got married for the second time. However, Bilal kept Asifa with him. When Rijwana Parveen realised about the torture & suffering of her daughter Asifa she along with some social workers rescued her and admitted her to Capital hospital. Rijwana also reported the matter at the Balipatna Police Station.
Meanwhile, Bilal has said that Asifa’s health condition deteriorated in the grief of being separated from her mother. Bilal also said that Asifa will stay with her mother and he has provided Rs 30,000 for treatment. On July 8, CHILDLINE intervened and has been providing all necessary care, medicines and food at the hospital to Asifa.
After the intervention of CHILDLINE officials, a case was registered at Balipatna Police Station based on the complaint filed by Asifa’s grandfather. Later on Friday (July 9), Police arrested Asifa’s father & stepmother on charges of torture.
