In a shocking incident, a man from Jota Chandpatna village in Jagatsinghpur district allegedly attacked his wife and daughter and later hanged himself at his house on Friday (July 2). The mother-daughter duo succumbed to their injuries today (July 3) while undergoing treatment.
As per reports, Loknath Pal of the village hacked his wife Kalpana and daughter Madhusmita with a sharp-edged weapon late last night. Lokpal then allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling of his house. Saturday morning, police recovered his body and sent the grievously injured mother-daughter duo to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.
However, Madhusmita succumbed to her injuries at the hospital while Kalpana was sent to SCB Hospital in Cuttack, where she breathed her last this afternoon. While police suspect family dispute as the cause, the exact reason behind the suspected murder-suicide is yet to be known.
Police have launched an in-depth investigation into the case. A few villagers have reportedly informed that Loknath’s son had married a girl of a different caste and currently resides in Bhubaneswar.
