Two persons were sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with the gang rape of a minor girl in Nayagarh. A lower court in Odisha’s Nayagarh district convicted two persons who were reportedly underage at the time of committing the crime in the gang rape of a minor girl on Monday. A fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed on each convict by the Additional District Judge (ADJ) cum special judge of Children’s Court. Earlier, in April 2017, the Class 10 girl was accosted by the accused duo near Jhadeswari temple when she was on her way to a bank to check the balance in her account. The two accused then took turns to rape the girl and recorded a video of the gruesome act before circulating it on internet. Afterwards a case was registered at Sarankul Police Station in this matter and the two accused were arrested and sent to a rehabilitation centre in Berhampur. The duo was convicted under Sections 376 and 292 by the court, which maintained that the accused duo will now undergo imprisonment in jail as they have turned adults.
