Trouble seems to be brewing for actor-turned-MP of the Trinamool Congress Nusrat Jahan, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sought action against her allegedly for her 'unethical and illegal conduct'. In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, BJP Parliamentarian Sanghamitra Maurya pointed out that Nusrat’s bio profile on Lok Sabha’s website details her marital status as ‘married’ and she has also named Nikhil Jain as her husband in the document.

Maurya stated in the letter that while taking the Parliamentary oath, the TMC MP pronounced her name as ‘Nusrat Jahan Roohi Jain’ and was dressed as a newlywed bride during her oath taking ceremony. Maurya also pointed that Nusrat’s wedding reception was attended by none other than West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

However, the information provided by Nusrat to the Parliament was in direct contradiction with her recent press statement which claimed that her marriage to businessman Nikhil Jain was ‘invalid’. While conceding that nobody had the right to encroach upon Jahan's private life, the BJP Parliamentarian accused her of "cheating" the electorate by giving false information to the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Therefore, the BJP has sought before the Lok Sabha Speaker to initiate appropriate action against Nusrat under the relevant rules of the Lok Sabha procedure. Further, the saffron party also wants the matter to be referred to the Committee on Ethics, for detailed investigation of her 'illegal and unethical conduct'.

Earlier this month, Nusrat had released an official statement mentioning that her marriage was invalid and was not registered in India. However, Nikhil Jain had refuted Nusrat’s claims and insisted that they lived together as "husband and wife" and introduced themselves as a married couple in the society.
