Low Pressure Likely Around June 11, IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall Over Several Odisha Districts

It has been hardly two weeks since Cyclone Yaas ravaged parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Centre (IMD) has predicted formation of another low-pressure area over North Bay of Bengal (BoB) around June 11. This may cause the Southwest Monsoon to advance into most parts of Odisha.

It has been hardly two weeks since Cyclone Yaas ravaged parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Centre (IMD) has predicted formation of another low-pressure area over North Bay of Bengal (BoB) around June 11. This may cause the Southwest Monsoon to advance into most parts of Odisha.

The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha between June 8 and 11. In view of this, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory to the Collectors directing them to closely monitor the situation. The Collectors have been asked to circulate IMD’s message and take appropriate action.

Starting from the morning of June 7 till morning of June 8, thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur.

Similarly, from June 8 to June 9 morning, thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at some places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Balasore.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is also very likely over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi during the same period.
The forecast for June 9 to 10th morning suggests that heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur.

Similarly, in the next day heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at some places over Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapara Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal and  Kalahandi.
