It’s been hardly 10 days since Odisha unlocked, and people have been warned of another lockdown.
The reason, caution has been thrown to the winds after relaxation of curbs. During a review meeting on Tuesday (September 7), Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the state government will be forced to impose a lockdown in Odisha again if people don't adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines strictly.
Reviewing the current pandemic situation, Naveen Patnaik said “the only way to ensure that a third wave doesn't affect the state is to diligently adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines” and that any minor negligence could prove to be a threat for all.
The CM said that healthcare workers, school children, pregnant women and government employees come under the high-risk category and that regular testing should be conducted to detect cases among them. Patnaik said "the restrictions were relaxed in the state keeping in view the interests of the common man, but if required, the lockdown will be brought back in force in the state.
" Talking about the risk of infection among children, the CM said that since currently no vaccine has come for children, everyone must put more emphasis on ensuring their safety. The Chief Minister directed the administration to keep a close watch on markets, religious institutions, healthcare institutions in order to ensure strict compliance of Covid-19 rules.
In view of the festive season, Patnaik advised everyone to be more cautious and requested all to wear masks, wash hands, maintain social distance and avoid congregation. It is our responsible behaviour during the festive season that will be decisive in controlling the third wave, said Patnaik.
