The renovation of the 1919 massacre site at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar has evoked some mixed reactions.

Some criticised that the renovation at the site has tarnished the memory of our patriots who had sacrificed their life for the nation. However, some have counter-argued that such criticism is just a political ploy and rather the move to have a light and sound system at the site will raise the awareness about our martyred who sacrifice their lives in Jallianwala Bagh.

On August 28, Narendra Modi tweeted a video regarding the sound and light show that has recently begun in at the renovated Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar. Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar is the place where thousands of people had gathered on April 13, 1919, to celebrate Baisakhi and to demand the release of Dr Satyapal and Dr Kitchlew, but they were mercilessly massacred by the British.

Recently, the memorial site at Jallianwala Bagh has been given a makeover and the light and sound show is a part of the new renovation project. Slamming the move of the Centre, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that it was “an insult to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh”. In contrast to the reaction of Congress party, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said that the new changes looked very nice to him.
