In a shocking incident, an elderly man was hacked to death by his daughter-in-law over a family dispute in Ranapal village under Belgadia Block of Jajpur district on Monday (Aug 16). The deceased has been identified as Pabana Hati while the accused daughter-in-law was identified as Rupa Hati. Sources said that on Monday, the accused, her father-in-law and mother-in-law had gotten into an altercation while they were working in their agricultural field. In the evening, the angry woman had returned back home and told her husband all that had transpired earlier. Later, after all family members had returned back home, the accused asked her husband to take her to her parent's place. However, after he refused, the accused started shouting at home.
Later, while the victim was sitting in front of the house and playing Mridangam, the accused attacked him with an axe on his neck, killing him on the spot. On Tuesday (Aug 17), the victim's son lodged a written complaint against his wife at Panikoli Police Station. The police then rushed to the spot and launched a probe while a scientific team was called for further investigation. The accused is currently absconding while the police refused to comment on the matter.
