A youth from Odisha's Berhampur has come up with a unique innovation to deal with the rising fuel prices. Meet Akshay Das, a resident of Ramachandrapur on the outskirts of the silk city, who has conceived this brilliant idea.
Pursuing post-graduation in Commerce, Akshay is no stranger to innovation as he had interest in electronics since beginning. Akshay has converted a 15-year-old Pulsar motorcycle into an electric bike (e-bike). The engine and silencer have been replaced with a lead-acid battery, motor.
Akshay spent around Rs 35,000 for the required equipment which he ordered from Odisha and outside state. Another exciting feature available in this e-bike is it is equipped with auto-reverse facility. As claimed by Akshay, the battery-operated vehicle can run up to 60-70 km after a full charge. He has also developed a battery-operated cycle with reverse features.
The cycle can run up to 60kms if charged for 3 hours. Not only this, Akshay also fixed a 3-speed mode motor in his friend's old Scooty keeping his request. Akshay says he got inspiration and learnt the techniques by watching videos on YouTube. Many people are now very keen and have shown interest in purchasing e-bikes from Akshay.
They are also pursuing others to go for the same. Akshay's friends asserted that full charging of the vehicle costs them only a single unit of electricity. Considering the advantage of this over running the vehicle on petrol, this innovation is here to stay for long.
