These low-hanging bunches of grapes could easily pass for a produce from a sprawling vineyard. But it may come as a surprise that these grapevines are from a village in Odisha. Bijaylaxmi Bastia from Khandamunda Village under Niali of Cuttack district has managed to grow these grapes in her garden.

Bijaylaxmi got a sapling from an acquaintance. She nurtured it with all care. Her labour is now starting to bear fruit. A single vine now boasts of around 20 kilogram grapes. After seeing such produce from a single vine, Bijaylaxmi is now thinking of taking-up full scale cultivation. Not only her; many women in her neighbourhood have also found the inspiration and urge to grow grapes after witnessing Bijaylaxmi’s success.
