Cyclonic storm Yaas is likely to make landfall near Balasore. According to the latest update by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Yaas is very likely to cross north Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Islands near Balasore. The cyclone is likely to cross the coast during May 26th as a ‘very severe cyclonic storm.’ As per the latest data, Cyclonic storm Yaas which developed over East Central Bay of Bengal continued its movement North NorthWestwards at a wind speed of 4 kmph. The cyclonic storm lay centered about 630 km north-northwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 520 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 620 km south-southeast of Balasore (Odisha) and 610 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal) over the East Central Bay of Bengal. As per IMD forecast, it is also likely to intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 12 hours and into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours. Moreover, the cyclonic storm is likely to continue moving north-northwestwards, intensify further and reach Northwest Bay of Bengal near north Odisha and West Bengal coasts by 26th May early morning.
