The apex court also directed the state boards to declare the results of internal assessment by July 31, similar to the timeline specified for ICSE and CBSE. This observation was made today by a vacation bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari.

According to the SC bench, each board is autonomous and different. Therefore, the Bench said that court cannot direct adoption of a uniform scheme. Justice Khanwilkar observed that each state board will have to evolve their own assessment criteria as states have experts to direct them for the same.

This observation by Supreme Court was made during a hearing of a PIL filed by Advocate Anubha Sahai Srivastava seeking cancellation of Class 12 exams of state boards. Most of the state boards have already cancelled the exams citing the COVID pandemic situation in the country. However, the petitioner had sought for an alternate prayer that there should be a uniform scheme for evaluation of students.
