The Odisha Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced creation of 220 new OAS posts in the state. The Chief Minister approved 11 different proposals including restructuring of the OAS Cadre.

As per the Cabinet proposal, the OAS Group A (SB) posts have been increased to 385 from the existing strength of 330. Similarly, the OAS Supertime posts have been increased to 270 from the existing 235 posts. On the other hand, 90 more posts have been created in the OAS Superior Administrative Grade and 40 more in the OAS Special Secretary level, thereby increasing their strength to 215 and 65, respectively.

Officers of the OAS cadre contribute mostly to the Revenue Administration, Law and Order, Rural and Urban development, Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Education and Health and especially, Disaster Management. And the government schemes and welfare activities growing manifold in recent times has necessitated posting of officers in different levels, in addition to the existing scale.

Keeping this in mind, the government said that there is a need for enhancement of posts in mid and senior level in order to augment the existing promotional facilities, through restructuring of the cadre. Considering this requirement, the state government restructured the Cadre, thereby creating 220 new posts.
