Ahead of the landfall of the cyclonic storm Yaas between Odisha and West Bengal coast on May 26th, the regional centre of India Meteorological Centre (IMD) on Sunday (May 23) issued red and yellow warning for several coastal districts in the state, wherein heavy rainfall and thunderstorms will be witnessed. The Meteorological Centre (MeT) has issued a yellow warning starting from morning of May 25th to the next morning. As per the prediction, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda and Puri. Heavy rainfall is also very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Ganjam. A Red warning has been issued from morning of May 26th till the morning of May 27th predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at a few places over a few districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar with isolated extremely heavy fall over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapada. During the period, a yellow warning was also issued predicting heavy rainfall which is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Anugul, Deogarh, Khurdha and Sundergarh.
