There will be NO new engineering colleges for 2 more years. This ban on new engineering colleges comes after an existing ban of 2 years.

So, why is India so sceptical in opening new institutions.

That is because, engineering classes are empty & it’s been like this for quite long. Year after year over 40% of seats in engineering colleges are remaining vacant!

It seems this trend is refusing to correct itself, which is why India extended ban on new colleges till 2024.

A panel headed by IIT-Hyderabad chairman B V R Mohan Reddy advised the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to stop approving new engineering colleges for two years.

Citing low enrolment into the engineering colleges, the expert committee has further recommended extension of the ban beyond 2022-23.
