With the first term CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) Board exams for Class 10 and 12 all set to be conducted in offline mode in November, the Board has clarified regarding the question pattern for the upcoming exams.

In an earlier circular released by the board, the Board had announced that over 50 per cent questions in CBSE Class 10 and 12 Board Exam 2022 Term 1 examination will be on competency-based Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).

Even though the sample papers released by CBSE provide the paper pattern, according to the Board, many teachers and students are still not clear about the nature of MCQs asked in it.

Thus, the board again clarified with school teachers regarding the question pattern for different subjects through video conferencing. In the meeting, it was clarified that for Science subject, Competency-based MCQs are different from complex case-based MCQs and can be a diagram, table or labelling based MCQ.

This competency-based education applies to Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects of CBSE Class 12 Term 1 Boards as well. For Mathematics, the board has used the same parameters to set the questions.

For English Term 1 paper, Board clarified that MCQs will not be asked based on standard format for letters, stories, articles, etc. The questions will require the students to use their reading, understanding, analytical and decision making skills, while assertion/ reason based MCQs can be asked in the Literature and Reading section.
