Amid rising demands for a hybrid pattern, the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) Class 12 Term-1 exams for minor subjects are kicking off today while ICSE Class 10 exams have been scheduled from next week.
The Supreme Court on Monday (Nov 15) adjourned the hearing of the plea submitted by the CBSE and CISCE students to November 18. The petitioners have sought the conduct of the Board exams in the hybrid mode.
As per reports, the students submitted a plea with the Apex Court seeking an option for online mode along with the center-based offline exams. Earlier, CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) had given an option to students to choose their preferred mode of giving exam, but the Council later revised the exam dates and announced to hold exams in offline mode only, like CBSE.
It is to be noted, that students of both CBSE and CISCE have filed the concerned petition at the Supreme Court, citing that conducting exams in offline mode will “continuously expose the students and increase the risk of infection to Covid-19 rendering the impugned action as arbitrary and in violation of Right to Health.”
The plea mentioned that with the minor subjects scheduled for November and the major in December, both in physical mode, there is a likelihood that the exams for major subjects may turn into a super spreader event.
The plea further added that online exams will facilitate social distancing and reduce strain on logistical constraints.
