The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday (Dec 13) dropped a controversial comprehension passage from its Class 10 English board exam question paper. As per a circular released by CBSE, the board decided to drop the passage from the paper conducted on Saturday (Dec 11) after several stakeholders complained about its ‘regressive’ and ‘misogynistic’ messaging.

Following the criticism, the board informed in the circular that “on the basis of the feedback received from stakeholders, the matter was referred to a committee of subject experts” who then recommended the removal of the same.

The board then clarified it would be also awarding full marks to all students for its accompanying questions in all sets of the paper in order to maintain “uniformity and parity” Different comprehension passages had featured in other question paper sets and thus the board decided to award full marks to students for passage No. 1 for all sets of the Class 10 CBSE English Language and Literature.
